In 1946, Raymond L. Czichos, his wife Madge, their children; Raymond W., Gene, and Joanne; visited the Texas Hill Country around Wimberley. They returned to Houston the proud owners of a "huge" seven acres of land on the Blanco River. Calling the spot 7A Ranch, the family thought they had more than enough space to fulfill their life's dream--to create a family vacation spot. Within a week R.L was back with his father, F.P. Czichos, putting up the first building, a 24' x 25' structure that became the family's living quarters. Madge and the children joined R.L in September. Five rock cottages and a rock recreation room were built during the bleak, snowy winter of 1946-47. The following summer, the Czichoses rented their first cabins and began their family resort on the Blanco.

7A Resort is beginning its sixtieth season as a family vacationland. Much has changed in Wimberley. In 1946, it was a sleepy little village isolated from the rest of Texas with only one paved road coming into town. Wimberley now has four major paved roads, and a population of over 8000 crowds the streets and square. Week-ends and Market Days swell that number greatly.

Much has also changed a mile upriver at 7A Resort. The seven acres has grown to 142. In 1956, a whole new atmosphere was created with the building of Pioneer Town as an attraction and entertainment place for young and old alike. The five original cabins have grown to nineteen plus two four-room units and three ten-room Lodges. The Czichos family added another son, Carroll, after moving from Houston, and, though Madge and R.L. are no longer alive, their children and grandchildren are actively involved in the continuing legacy of 7A. Each year new memories are made as individuals, families, and groups return again and again to experience the magic that originated in a tiny seven acres and the dream of one family.
